COSMOLOGY - the doctrine of the creation and of history GOD AND THE BIG BANG - AND OTHER ARGUMENTS ABOUT SCIENCE AND FAITH - by Mike Poole. One of the most dramatic ideas of modern science is the Big Bang. But the Big Bang was not a cosmic explosion at a point in time in empty black space, but the beginning of space and of time itself (space-time). The idea that time is part of the creation is very difficult to grasp. But it is similar to the view which St. Augustine held, back in the 4th century! Realising that the Bible teaches that God transcends time, he said that creation was 'with time', not 'in time'. So the Bible's opening words, 'In the beginning', better express the idea than the traditional 'Once upon a time'. FAITH --- Footprints in the Dust - by Ernest Lucas. Within a few years some Christians were arguing that this thin layer of dust proved that the moon (and therefore the Earth) is only a few thousand years old. Their argument rested on an article by H. Pettersson published in Scientific American in 1960. Pettersson measured the amount of atmospheric dust collected by filters on top of Mount Mauna Loa in Hawaii. A U-Cosmology - Robert A. Herrmann Ph. D. Within creation-science, there is a conflict between the concept of "Divine intervention" and certain human constructs (imaginations), where such human constructs are claimed to be "the way that God did it." Today, theistic evolution and the "Prime Mover" concept of Aristotle are almost equivalent. From this notion, we could construct a scale relative to the degree that natural-system behavior follows patterns associated with human imaginations that state that "this is the way that God did it" versus natural-system behavior produced by Divine intervention (miraculous processes). Richards, Jr. Most of us dislike any authority suppressing the truth for any reason and of such scandals are born. Yet, Lenin said that a lie told often enough becomes the truth. Skeptics and atheists have excelled in both. Romans 1:18 (NKJV) says they "suppress the truth in unrighteousness." Dr. Rodney Stark, Professor of sociology and comparative religions at the Univ. of Washington uncovers all this in his book "For The Glory of God" through tedious research into original, historical documents. New Rate Data Support a Young World - D. Russell Humphreys, Ph.D. Our experiments measured how rapidly nuclear-decay-generated Helium escapes from tiny radio-active crystals in granite-like rock. The new data extend into a critical range of temperatures, and they resoundingly confirm a num-erical prediction we published several years before the experiments.4 The Helium loss rate is so high that almost all of it would have escaped during the alleged 1.5 billion year uniformitarian5 age of the rock, and there would be very little Helium in the crystals today. The dean of American biology, Theodosius Dobzhansky (1900-1975), claimed that “evolution” is the cornerstone of biology and is central to an understanding of both living and extinct organisms. His statement that “nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution” has been repeated in hundreds of articles arguing for a central place for Darwinism in all areas of science education, including medicine, agriculture and biotechnology (for example, see Antolin and Herbers, 2001, p. 2379).
God: Does He
Exist? - Doug Sharp. There is an aching sense gripping
Americans today that something is missing from their lives. Change is taking
place at lightning speed, giving use new technology and conveniences we have
never known before. Yet it seems that our quality of life is deteriorating,
not improving. The accumulation of these "conveniences" creates a cutthroat
pace of life that is always demanding for more of our time and resources. We
have to run as fast as we can just to stay in one place. Is The Universe Static Or Expanding? - Barry Setterfield, 4th August 2002. In today's scientific climate, it almost seems an impertinence to even pose this question, impinging as it does upon one of the bases of modern cosmology. Nevertheless, in the history of astronomy since 1929, there has consistently been a minority of astronomers who have questioned the prevailing paradigm of universal expansion. Furthermore, there are certain pertinent facts which, when examined, lead to the conclusion that it might be wise to reconsider the evidence upon which the whole idea of an expanding cosmos is based. In this brief introductory essay I will consider how (five) areas in physics and cosmology are influencing the contemporary discussion of Christian theology. The primary theological topics are God, eternity and time, creation out of nothing (creatio ex nihilo), continuous creation, special providence and divine action in the world. Topics in physics include special and general relativity, contemporary cosmology, quantum mechanics, particle physics and field theory, non-linear, non-equilibrium thermodynamics, and chaos theory.
