PNEUMATOLOGY - the
doctrine of the Holy Spirit
and other spirits
HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM - Dr. BENJAMIN COCAR. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a very important scriptural doctrine, but it is astonishing that this vital doctrine is surrounded by much confusion. The vast majority of the writers on this subject recognize the difference of opinion concerning this ministry of the Holy Spirit. The main reason for the confusion is an improper understanding of the distinctiveness of the church in this age. The Holy Spirit - Charles Hodge. The two points to be considered in reference to this subject, are, first the nature, and second the office or work of the Holy Spirit. With regard to his nature, is He a person or a mere power? and if a person, is He created or divine, finite or infinite? The Holy Spirit: Old Testament and Today - R. C. Sproul. What was the role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament? The role of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament was not principally different from the role of the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. While there are some differences, there's an essential unity between the two Testaments. (courtesy of www.greaceonlinelibrary.org)
The Holy Spirit
-Edwin Palmer. One of the distinguishing marks of a Christian is his belief
in the Holy Spirit as a Person. From the early days of the church to
present-day Modernism, there have been those who have denied the personality
of the Spirit in one form or another.
The Work of the
Spirit in Enlightening the Mind - James Buchanan. One of
his most necessary operations is that by which he conveys spiritual light
into the understanding; and to this part of his work, which is indeed so
important, that it is often put for the whole, the apostle refers, when,
speaking of the Holy Ghost as ‘the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,’ he
prays that by the Spirit ‘the eyes of our understanding may be enlightened’
(Eph. i. 17, 18),
The Authority of
the Holy Spirit -DM Lloyd-Jones. I WOULD remind you
first of all that, from a practical standpoint, this third division of our
study of the subject of authority is the most important of all. Notice that
I say from a practical standpoint. This is because all that we have been
considering up to this point may be of no value to us unless we know and
experience the authority of the Holy Spirit. A Body of Doctrinal Divinity - Book 1—Chapter 31 - Of The Distinct Personality, And Deity Of The Holy Spirit - John Gill. What only remains now to be considered, under the article of the Trinity, are the personality and divinity of the Holy Ghost; to prove that he is a Person, a distinct Person, from the Father and Son; and a divine Person, or truly and properly God.
